Summary

The Kasiisi Project Girls Support Program has three main initiatives: keeping girls in school, informed about their sexual health, and economically independent. The Kasiisi Project Girls Support Program has developed initiatives to assist girls in successfully completing their education. These programs include: Supplying sanitary pads to girls who are menstruating; Constructing private ‘girls only’ latrines; Providing accurate health information and mentorship through a female health worker.

Challenge

In Uganda, drop-out rates are high for rural girls. Up to 80% of girls entering primary school will never complete their primary education. Uganda has the highest teen pregnancy rate in sub-Saharan Africa with over 30% of Ugandan girls having their first baby by the time they are 18. HIV infection rates are 9 times higher in girls than boys the same age and Uganda has one of the highest maternal death rates in the world, 25% of which are from unsafe abortions.

Solution

We will keep girls in school which in turn will affect the entire community through training students to act as peer leaders about reproductive health, distribution of sanitary pads to girls in school and construction of girls only private latrines at school. Early data show that the programs have had a remarkable impact.

Long-Term Impact

Early data show that the program has had a remarkable impact. Girls in schools with peer-educators are better informed about reproductive health and more comfortable with discussing issues around menstruation, puberty and relationships with boys. We now have 14 trained women teachers supporting 42 trained student- educators in 14 schools serving 5000 girls. Additionally, data is showing a steady increase in girls attending school since we began distributing sanitary pads in 2006.

US and International Terms of Service

This Terms of Service Agreement (the "Agreement") is between you ("you") and Donating Cryptos (together with our affiliates, service providers, and partners, "Donating Cryptos," "we," and/or "us") and governs your use of the donatingcryptos.org web site and successor web site(s) (the "Site"), including the materials and information posted on it, and the functionality that permits you to make donations, solicit donations, create an account, apply for a grant, establish fundraisers, solicit donations for a project, or to use any other functionality offered through the website.

Acceptance of Terms and Supplementary Terms. Donating Cryptos operates the Site subject to this Agreement, including the Privacy Policy and any additional guidelines, rules, terms and conditions, or limitations applicable to specific components of the Site (each, a "Supplementary Term"), each of which is incorporated by reference herein. In addition, Project Leaders, Non-Profit Organizations, and any Individual, Organization, or Company providing due diligence or application for a grant are subject to the terms and conditions set forth in the supplemental terms and conditions that are included with said application.By making a payment you acknowledge and agree that you are at least eighteen years of age, legally competent, and that you are entering into a legally binding contract with Donating Cryptos governing your use of the Site, which contract includes all Supplementary Terms. If you are an individual accepting this Agreement on behalf of an agency or entity, you warrant that you have the legal right to accept this Agreement on behalf of such agency or entity and that the agency or entity will also be bound by this Agreement.
You acknowledge and agree that Donating Cryptos retains control over the donated funds. In the event that (i) a project is retired or fully funded or (ii) Donating Cryptos receives a Payment without reference to a specific project or campaign, the donated funds will be allocated to Donating Cryptos General Fund.

You acknowledge and agree that a printed version of this Agreement and/or any electronic communication from Donating Cryptos shall be admissible in judicial or administrative proceedings based upon or relating to this Agreement and/or your use of the Site to the same extent and subject to the same conditions as other business documents and records originally generated and maintained in printed form.
Amendment. Donating Cryptos reserves the right to modify this Agreement from time to time in its sole discretion by posting an announcement of such changes on the Site, along with the revised Agreement marked to show the date of last revision. By continuing to use the Site after such changes are posted, you acknowledge and agree to be bound by the Agreement as modified.
Modification, Suspension, and/or Cancellation. Donating Cryptos reserves the right to modify the Site, and change, suspend, or discontinue providing all or part of the content or functionality of the Site in its sole discretion, with or without notice. Personal Information. When you create an account or profile, submit an expression of interest, list a project, create a fundraiser or registry, or make a donation, you will be asked to provide certain personal information, such as your name and contact information, and given the opportunity to select one or more user names and passwords (collectively, your "User ID").You acknowledge and agree that:
- You agree to provide accurate and truthful information, and to promptly update this information to reflect any changes;
- You represent that you have all rights in the information necessary to provide it to Donating Cryptos;
- User ID is for your personal use only and may not be transferred to any third party;

Summary

We provide support, empowerment, emergency rescue & healthcare to sex workers, including trafficked minors, transgenders, MSM and those affected by HIV. We enable them to become their own agents for social change, breaking the crippling cycles of exploitation. By sheltering & educating their children we prevent 2nd-generation prostitution & empower the same children to support their mothers to leave the sex trade & many also help other exploited women through social work.

Challenge

Trafficking & prostitution is a US$1 billion business & an estimated 1.2 million children are in prostitution in India. Children of sex workers are exposed to their mother’s profession, addictions, violence & child labour. While girls are groomed in the business, boys often become pimps. 75% of our sex workers, including transgender & MSM, are illiterate, unable to break free from their bondage, more likely to catch HIV & less likely to own identity papers.

Solution

We distribute condoms & conduct health check-ups without judgement serving over 3,000 female sex workers (FSWs), MSM & transgenders. Peer educators, recruited from our FSWs, help identify, rescue & rehabilitate trafficked FSWs. Our shelter home provides care to 250 of their children, rape & trafficked survivors, orphans & those living with HIV. They are safe, happy, active & healthy, participating in school, vocational training, extra-curricular, sports, cultural & recreational activities.

Long-Term Impact

Snehalaya enables sex workers to become agents for social change, with 2 FSWs on our board since 1989. There is 100% condom usage & no underage or 2nd-generation sex workers & we have reduced STD rates to some of the lowest in India. In 2006, a rescue of 2 minors exposed & secured double life sentences for 20 highly influential figures. We have sheltered & educated over 1,000 vulnerable children & with COVID affecting their income have helped 35 FSWs find new vocations.

Summary

The aim of the project is to help pregnant women living in a difficult emotional or financial situation to see that they are capable of raising a child. Also to support women in need who have already given birth so they can focus on their emotional well-being. We want to provide women and babies with necessary hygiene and other items so that their basic needs are met. Also to offer psychological counselling to both pregnant women and those who have just given birth, all of which at no cost.

Challenge

The project will seek to empower women in crisis pregnancies: 14 – 49 year old pregnant women living in Lithuania who are experiencing difficult emotional and social situations, are considering terminating their pregnancies because they feel insecure, are left alone, feel psychological pressure from father of a child or other close environment. Also includes women who are suffering loss of a child because of miscarriage, premature birth or abortion or are experiencing postpartum depression

Solution

We’ll be supporting women during pregnancies and the child’s first 2 years. In our centre women will receive individual complex support free of charge. A woman will be provided with whatever consultations at the moment meets her needs best: social workers, psychologists, lawyers, obstetrician – gynecologists, geneticist, doulas or lactation consultants. Our volunteers and employees will prepare a package of necessities for the baby and mother, will provide material and financial aid if needed.

This project provides a safe home for around twelve orphaned children in Haiti. The 2010 earthquake destroyed the orphanage’s old house, leaving all of the children homeless. They were all forced to live in one small room and a tent, which flooded almost daily. So, we rented them a new home, and also began meeting their other needs, like food and school. Without donors like you all the kids would be homeless, but instead they’re thriving, thanks to you.

Challenge

Orphaned children in Haiti have few chances at a bright future. There isn’t an effective nationwide child protection service, and even at their best, they can care for only a fraction of Haiti’s homeless kids. That leaves children reliant on private institutions like the HTDC orphanage (SMDT orphanage in French). HTDC can only meet their needs if donors like you provide the funding they need to care for them.

Solution

This project will provide funding so that the HTDC orphanage can invest in each child’s future through a safe home, nutritious food, quality education, health care, and enriching activities. The orphanage is currently based in a rented house, and have recently reduced the number of children in its care. With your support, HTDC will care for the remaining children until they grow up or can be found stable, loving homes.

Long-Term Impact

Without the support of the HTDC orphanage, all the children would likely be on the streets and vulnerable to exploitation. If they survived, their future would be bleak and include crime, poverty, and homelessness. Instead, by meeting their needs today, and by investing in their futures, they will have the opportunity to grow into healthy, educated and successful adults.

Our four Palestinian NGO partners identify families in crisis and provide financial transparency. Your donation builds livable homes for Gaza families or helps pay their rent, establishes small businesses for a source of income, and provides the food and clothing they desperately need.

Challenge

Gaza families were already in desperate conditions before the May bombings. Families who were able to make a living before also need support now. The Israeli Army destroyed roads, apartments, and businesses. With no exports, few imports, and no means of production, jobs have plummeted- pushing unemployment above 50%, and >72% unemployment for youth under 30. This is beyond the economic collapse that the UN warned about. Families need a way to hold on as we press for an end to the blockade.

Solution

Huge problems – but to paraphrase Nabeel Hamdi, “To do something big, start small and start where it counts.” Let’s do this, child by child, family by family. This project provides flexible emergency intervention. Rebuilding Alliance’s NGO partners work with families to deliver nutritious food, rehabilitate barely-livable homes or provide rent or debt relief. Developing a stable income is key: we work with each family to help them plan & launch their small business. Your support restores hope.

Long-Term Impact

The fragile ceasefire has been holding -but the economy is devastated: there are few jobs. Though vaccines are more available, COVID variants spread widely. This program with FGM survivor and activist Rhobi Samwelly protects and empowers girls at risk of gender-based violence, including child marriage and female genital mutilation (FGM). Her organization Hope for Girls and Women runs safe houses to protect girls at risk, maps uncharted regions of Tanzania for rescue teams, initiates girls into womanhood without FGM, and educates cutters and community leaders around the impacts of gender-based violence

Challenge

In Tanzania, thousands of girls undergo FGM and other forms of gender-based violence. Although FGM is illegal in Tanzania, statistics show that approximately 10% of women nationally have undergone FGM, with prevalence in the Mara region at 32%. Our work protects girls who run away from their homes and empowers them to be independent for years to come.

Solution

Hope’s safe houses protect girls who refuse FGM, especially during cutting season, until their parents sign an affidavit that ensures a safer environment. Activists are hosting outreach work, including community road shows and local debates, in areas where girls are at risk of FGM and early marriage. Hope also empowers girls to continue their education or learn a trade so that they can be self-sufficient.

Long-Term Impact

Education and certification courses will increase girls’ employment prospects and potentially lead to further educational opportunities. They can also be decision makers in their own communities and campaign effectively against FGM and child marriage for future generations.
